ATHENS-----The Georgia men’s tennis team will face at least 14 NCAA Tournament participants from last season, including home matches against Florida, Tennessee and Texas A&M, as the Bulldogs’ 2012-13 schedule was announced Monday.

“We’re really excited about this year’s schedule,” head coach Manuel Diaz said. “You can tell by the quality of teams we will play that it’s going to be a fun and challenging season for our team. We are very much looking forward to beginning competition on Sept. 7 with the Southern Intercollegiate.”

The Bulldogs’ schedule includes eight fall tournaments, beginning with the Southern Intercollegiate Championships, America’s oldest fall college tennis tournament, Sept. 7-10 in Athens. Georgia’s fall slate also includes the Napa Valley Classic (Sept. 21-23), All-American Championships (Oct. 1-7), Futures of Mansfield (Oct. 15-21), ITA Southeast Regional Championships in Tallahassee, Fla. (Oct. 19-21) and the ITA National Indoor Singles and Doubles Championship in New York (Nov. 8-11). UGA will play host to a pair of round robin events with the Bulldog Invitational Oct. 5-7 and the Bulldog Scramble Nov. 9-11.

After a two-month break, Georgia returns to action at the annual SEC Coaches Indoor Tournament Jan.18-21 in Nashville, Tenn. The first dual match is slated for Jan. 25 against Vanderbilt as part of the ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Courts. VCU and Minnesota will also be on hand, with the winner of the four-team tournament advancing to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Seattle Feb. 15-18.

The Bulldogs have non-conference home matches against Clemson (Jan. 31), William & Mary (Feb. 10) Furman (Feb. 24) and East Tennessee State (Feb. 25), along with back-to-back trips to Ohio State (Feb. 3) and Georgia Tech (Feb. 8).

Georgia will face Tennessee in the SEC home opener March 1 in the first of six SEC home contests. The Bulldogs will also play host to Florida (March 15), South Carolina (March 17), Texas A&M (March 31), Auburn (April 12) and Alabama (April 14). Georgia’s SEC road schedule includes matches at Ole Miss (March 8), Mississippi State (March 10), Vanderbilt (March 22), Kentucky (March 24), LSU (April 5) and Arkansas (April 7).

The SEC Tournament will be held in Oxford, Miss., April 18-21, prior to the NCAA First and Second Rounds on campus sites May 10-12. The University of Illinois will host the NCAA Championships May 16-27 in Champaign, Ill.

Georgia returns seven players from last year’s squad that finished with a No. 5 national ranking.
