LONDON --- Georgia men’s tennis All-American John Isner on Wednesday won his third straight singles match of the 2012 Olympic Games to move into the quarterfinals at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, home of Wimbledon.

Isner’s three wins have now all come in straight sets, though on Wednesday it took some late dramatics as the former Bulldog defeated Serbia’s overall No. 7 seed Janko Tipsarevic by a score of 7-5, 7-6(14). Isner had six match points before his opponent double faulted to end it.

He will next meet the tournament’s No. 1 seed in Roger Federer, who Isner defeated earlier this year in Davis Cup play. The two will face off in the quarterfinals tomorrow, Aug. 2, with the match time to be set later tonight.

Isner is the first Olympian in Georgia men’s tennis history and is one of 26 current or former Bulldogs in action in London this summer.

Isner was an All-American for the Bulldogs from 2004-07 and helped Georgia to the 2007 NCAA championship. He still holds the Georgia record for career wins in both singles (143) and doubles (140).
