URBANA, Ill. --- Georgia junior Garrett Brasseaux has been named to the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championships All-Tournament Team at No. 5 singles, it was announced.
The Mandeville, La., native won both his singles matches in Georgia’s victories over Oklahoma and Pepperdine in the NCAA round of 16 and quarterfinals, respectively – both in three sets. He then put forth a heroic effort in the semifinals vs. eventual national champion Virginia, saving five team match points and winning his second-set tiebreaker to force a third vs. UVA’s 28th-ranked Mac Styslinger with Georgia trailing 3-1. Brasseaux’s match ultimately went unfinished as the Cavaliers picked up the decisive fourth point on another court.
Brasseaux closed his singles campaign at 28-11 after winning just 10 singles matches in both of the previous two seasons combined. He went 17-3 this year in dual matches and finished on a team-high 10-match winning streak.
Brasseaux is still in action in the NCAA Doubles Championships, set to begin competition today at the University of Illinois’ Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex with partner Nathan Pasha. The duo will take on Florida State’s Blake Davis and Dominic Cotrone in the first round at 4:30 p.m. ET.
