ATHENS, Ga. --- The University of Georgia men's tennis team (20-5) was awarded an at-large bid to the 2011 NCAA Championships and will continue its season next weekend as it plays host to first and second round action on campus May 13-14. The Bulldogs received the No. 6 overall seed and will open the tournament at home against Southern Conference opponent Samford on Fri., May 13 at 1 p.m. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

UNC Wilmington and SEC rival Auburn will also participate in the Athens regional, with the Seahawks and Tigers to square off at 10 a.m. on day one and the winner of each of the first round matches to play Sat., May 14 at 3 p.m. with a trip to the Round of 16 on the line. The later rounds and the individual tournament are set for May 19-30 at the Taube Tennis Center in Palo Alto, Calif., on the campus of Stanford University.

No. 6-ranked Georgia - the 2011 SEC regular-season champion - is making its 33rd overall appearance in the NCAA Championships. The Bulldogs have reached the final match in three of the last five seasons and are coming off a trip to the national semifinals in 2010.

"It's exciting [to host] - this is what the guys have worked toward," said 23rd-year head coach Manuel Diaz. "You play hard all season for hopefully the reward of hosting the first and second rounds. It's great for our guys to get to play at home and especially for our seniors to have two more matches here. It's also great for our fans around the area and in the community who support us. Hopefully they'll get to see some great tennis."

"Samford is always a very good team," Diaz said. "They have a lot of Athens and Atlanta-area kids on the team. They are talented and very deserving of a trip to the tournament."

Samford - a recipient of one of the 31 automatic bids - earned its second trip in four seasons with a 4-0 win over College of Charleston in the SoCon tournament finals April 23. The other Bulldogs are riding a five-match winning streak and have not lost since April 10.

The UGA women's tennis team was also selected as a regional host and will play May 14-15 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. A full schedule is listed below and an interactive draw is available on

The fields for the individual singles and doubles portion of the tournament will be released no later than 6 p.m. ET on Wed., May 4.
