ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia men’s tennis team jumped two spots to No. 8 in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team poll, it was announced Thursday – the final edition prior to next week’s NCAA Championships first and second rounds.

Southern California again holds the top spot, followed by Oklahoma, Ohio State, Virginia, UCLA, Baylor, North Carolina, Georgia, Texas, and Texas A&M to round out the top-10.

Georgia (16-7) will open tournament play on Sat., May 10 at 1 p.m. vs. Jacksonville State at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens. With a win, the Bulldogs would take on the winner of the Oregon-NC State first round match in Sunday’s second round with a berth to the NCAA round of 16 on the line. Smith and Pasha were selected last night to the NCAA singles field, while Pieters and Wagland will play in doubles. The individual portion is set for May 21-26, following the conclusion of the team tournament. By virtue of being seeded at No. 5-8, the Bulldog doubles duo earns automatic All-America honors.
