The season is moving along at a torrid pace. Our team has had a very good outdoor season and is now ranked at #4 in the latest ITA team rankings. The highlight was our win over #2 Ohio State in Athens on March 21. We stormed back after losing the doubles point and it was a memorable ending as we won the last two matches on the court to win by the score of 4-3.
Last weekend on March 30th was a meeting of the only two undefeated teams in the SEC and there was a big crowd at hand in The Dan Magill Tennis Complex. No. 9 Kentucky won the doubles point but our team put on a great fight and we took the lead, 3-2, in matches. Rain came and the last two matches went indoors. We could not hold on after being up a service break in both matches in the third set and Kentucky took a 4-3 victory.
Our team was disappointed but determined to learn more from that match than our opponents. We still have to play at Alabama and Auburn this weekend and at Tennesee on April 14. Kentucky has to play No. 10 Mississippi State and No. 16 Ole Miss this weekend. We are still in the running for our 34th SEC championship and it can come by way of the regular season or the SEC tournament April 18-22. We still have a lot of our goals in front of us. Our guys are working hard and representing our program in the right ways.
I promise I will update again next week after this week's matches and give you an update on the conference race. More news on the SEC schedule & standings, ITA rankings, and other news from georgiadogs.com from our home page: www.georgiatennis.com.
