ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia senior Javier Garrapiz was named the Southeastern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after going 4-0 on the weekend with two clinching victories vs. Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

Garrapiz’s four-win weekend – all of which came against ranked opponents – helped the seventh-ranked Bulldogs stay undefeated at 8-0 in the SEC while pushing their winning streak to 12 straight. He provided both clinchers with Georgia winning both matches by 4-3 scores.

On Friday in Oxford, the Huesca, Spain, native fought off a late break point and followed it with a break of his own to defeat No. 108 Tucker Vorster 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2 singles to seal the Georgia win. Also vs. the Rebels he teamed with freshman Hernus Pieters for an 8-7(5) win over No. 8 Chris and Marcel Thiemann to complete the doubles sweep.

On Sunday, Garrapiz clinched again with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win over No. 76 George Coupland, holding serve late and breaking for the win in the third set. He and Pieters secured the doubles point earlier in the day with their 8-2 win over 84th-ranked Louis Cant and Malte Stropp at No. 1 after the other two courts had split, giving the pair its 22nd win of the season and fifth in a row.

Garrapiz has now defeated 10 ranked opponents in singles and nine in doubles. He is 28-10 in singles and 22-6 in doubles on the year.

The weekly honor is the fourth of his career, including three Player of the Week and one rookie accolade. It is Georgia’s third of the 2011 season as Wil Spencer was named the Player of the Week on Jan. 26 and Pieters took home Freshman of the Week on Feb. 23.

The Bulldogs (17-3, 8-0) are next in action this weekend, hosting 16th-ranked Florida and South Carolina for a Friday-Sunday pair at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
