ATHENS-----University of Georgia junior Hernus Pieters and sophomore Nathan Pasha dropped three-set decisions in the quarterfinals of the ITA Southeast Regional Championships at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center Sunday.
Pieters, seeded third, was edged by Florida's sixth-seeded Florent Diep, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, while eighth-seeded Pasha fell to Georgia Tech's No. 2 seed Juan Spir, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
In doubles, Pasha and Garrett Brasseaux were eliminated by North Florida's Moritz Buerchner and Norbert Nemcsek in the semifinals, 8-3.
"We lost a couple of tight three-set matches in singles today," said Georgia head coach Manuel Diaz. "We've been winning our fair share, but just got outplayed. Spir and Diep played tremendous tennis, and we learned what we need to continue to work on. In doubles, the North Florida team played well. Still, we made a lot of progress this week and we'll continue to work."
In the consolation quarterfinals, Miami's Marco Stancati topped UGA redshirt freshman Casey Kay, 6-3, 6-0.
Bulldog senior KU Singh, who did not compete in the regional this week and has already secured a spot in the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, will play in the Birmingham Futures beginning on Tuesday.
