"A lot of good things happened today," said head coach Manuel Diaz. "We had a terrific day in singles and some really great battles by our guys. We lost a couple of close matches in doubles, but still played well. We're coming along as a team. Our challenges will be tougher starting tomorrow, but we are excited about the great opportunities we have."

In other singles action, Will Oliver and Casey Kay dropped their opening round contests after winning two qualifying matches apiece on Thursday. The Bulldogs are a combined 11-2 in singles after two days at the ITA Regional.

Eric Diaz and Ben Wagland also won a pair of doubles matches before being edged by Florida's No. 4 seeded team of Michael Alford and Florent Diep, 9-8(8).

Play continues Saturday in Tallahassee with two rounds of singles followed by the doubles quarterfinals. The singles and doubles champions of the ITA Regionals earn an automatic bid to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in New York.
