ATLANTA-----Three members of the Georgia men's tennis team won their opening round singles matches on the first day of main draw action at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships Saturday.

No. 1 seed Ben Wagland, No. 2 seed Nathan Pasha and Garrett Brasseaux (9-16) advanced to play in the round of 32 on Sunday at Georgia Tech's Ken Byers Tennis Complex. The winners will play again in the round of 16 Sunday afternoon.

The singles and doubles winners of the ITA Regionals will earn bids to the National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in New York Nov. 7-10. Sophomore Austin Smith has already earned a singles berth.

Wagland and Brasseaux prevailed in three sets in their respective matches. Wagland came back to beat Florida State's Grayson Goldin, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, while Brasseaux downed Miami's Omar Aly, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. Pasha won his match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, over Mercer's Arnav Mohanty.

Nick Wood, Hernus Pieters and Eric Diaz fell in their first round matches and will play in the consolation draw on Sunday.

"We have three guys moving on, but we didn't have the greatest day," said head coach Manuel Diaz. "Overall we did not play great. As a group, I'm interested in seeing how we respond and show some toughness. I know the guys are a little tired because for some it is their fourth tournament in a row and others were playing their first matches of the year. We know we have some things to work out, so we get a chance to improve tomorrow."

In doubles, the top-seeded team of Pieters and Wagland and the No. 3 seeded duo of Brasseaux and Pasha won their first round matches before falling in the round of 16.

Sunday's main draw schedule includes two rounds of singles and the doubles quarterfinals. The tournament will conclude with the singles and doubles finals on Tuesday.
