TULSA, Okla.-----Georgia senior Wil Spencer's run in the ITA All-American Championships came to an end Sunday as he fell to Virginia's Mitchell Frank in the final, 6-1, 7-5.
Despite the loss, Spencer became the first Bulldog to reach the final of the All-American Championships since Travis Helgeson in 2007.
"Unfortunately Wil didn't play as well today, but he had a great run in this tournament," said Georgia head coach Manuel Diaz. "Wil always gives everything he's got, and he was a little drained from playing two grueling matches yesterday. Mitchell seemed a little more fresh today, and he took advantage of that. Wil got up a break in the second, but just couldn't close it out. Still, we aren't hanging our heads. Wil had a great week, and Mitchell played well and deserved to win."
Spencer went 5-1 in the tournament with all five wins coming against ranked opponents. He now stands at 13-1 this season.
The Bulldogs return to action Oct. 21-24 at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships to be held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex
