ATHENS-----The Georgia men’s tennis team remained undefeated on the weekend by winning 10 singles matches and two doubles matches on the second day of the Southern Intercollegiate Championships Saturday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

The Bulldogs enter day three with a 19-0 record and will have five players in the Division I singles quarterfinals. Two Georgia doubles teams will also play in the Division I quarterfinals on Sunday.

“Our guys are playing well,” said UGA coach Manuel Diaz. “They were challenged in a major way today, but I like what I’m seeing. We’ve been a little inconsistent at times, but that is forgotten when you look at the bottom line results. It has been a fantastic weekend so far.

In singles, No. 2-seeded Ben Wagland, No. 3 Nathan Pasha, No. 6 Hernus Pieters, No. 8 Austin Smith and Nick Wood each won a pair of matches. Wood knocked off the No. 7 seed, Alabama’s Becker O’Shaughnessey, who is also ranked 100th.

Wood will face East Tennessee State’s Rogeiro Ribeiro Sunday at 10:30 a.m, while Pasha and Pieters will square off at 11 a.m. Smith is slated to meet Vanderbilt’s Gonzales Austin, and Wagland will face Clemson’s Hunter Harrington at 11 a.m.

Georgia started the day with a pair of doubles wins as Pieters/Wagland defeated Rayane Djouad and Oliver Webb of Georgia Southern, 8-4, and the duo of Smith/Wood downed Lander’s Adam Jonsson and Vincent Verpeaux, 8-3.

Day three of the Southern Intercollegiate Championships will start with consolation matches at 8 a.m. Doubles will be played in the afternoon.
