ATHENS, Ga. --- The No. 13 Bulldogs defeated No. 21 Auburn by way of a 4-0 sweep to take their first SEC match of the season Friday at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Courts.

In doubles, the Bulldogs took an early lead with wins at Nos. 1 and 2. At No. 1 the No. 6 ranked pair of Javier Garrapiz and Hernus Pieters gave Georgia a win over No. 23 ranked Daniel Cochrane and Tim Puetz 8-3.  At No. 2, No. 36 Sadio Doumbia and Ignacio Taboada took an 8-4 over No. 46 Alex Stamchev and Andreas Mies to clinch the doubles point.

No. 3 doubles was suspended with No. 79 Drake Bernstein and Wil Spencer leading Auburn's Lucas Lopasso and Rafael Rondino 8-7.

"I'm really happy with our start, said head coach Manuel Diaz.  "It's the SEC regular season and I thought we played well.  Auburn is a really good team.  They kept it close everywhere, in doubles and singles, but I thought we played hard and that's what got us this win."

In singles, Georgia extended their lead with Bernstein defeating Auburn's Cochrane 6-3, 6-1.  The Bulldogs continued their success with No. 37 Doumbia defeating No. 104 Stamchev 6-4, 6-1.

Georgia clinched at No. 2 as No. 15 Spencer defeated Auburn's Tim Hewitt 6-3, 6-4.  Spencer's win gives him his second clincher of the year and improves him to a staggering 6-1 record when playing at No.2.  Georgia is now 47-4 all-time versus Auburn.

The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday against No. 29 Alabama at 1:00 p.m. E.T. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.  Follow the action on the live scoring and the Georgia Tennis Live Chat.
