First Round Doubles Quotes

May 22, 2014

Tennessee
Junior Mikelis Libietis
On today's match...
"We played just really solid. We served well and they gave us easy chances and easy volleys. We just played solid and they kind of struggled a little bit. We practiced well this morning and we were ready for today."

Tennessee Junior Hunter Reese
On reaching the Sweet 16...
"It's something special for us. We have not had a lot of success at the NCAAs. Last year we lost in the second round, freshman year we lost in the first round. This is a special tournament. We definitely want to make a run. We've had a good season so far so we just need to keep going."

Georgia
Senior Maho Kawase
On today's match...
"I think we just had fun on the court, and just focused on every point. I feel great [about advancing]. The fans were there just to watch us as individuals so it felt great."

Junior Lauren Herring
On the fans throughout the tournament...
"They help out so much. It makes it a lot easier to just have fun and enjoy it. When the fans are behind you, it gives you a lot of momentum, so it has been a big part of the tournament for us."

Clemson
Junior Beatrice Gumulya
On the injury and subsequent retirement of UCLA's Robin Anderson and Jennifer Brady...
"We were down 1-0 when it first happened, and it was a little bit distracting. We were still trying to stay focused and I thought it was something that she could play through until the end of the match. When it was decided she couldn't finish the match, I didn't predict it at all."

North Florida
Freshman Jack Findal-Hawkins
On defeating the Southern Cal's top-ranked doubles team...
"It was good. We trained a lot all of this week. We put in a great performance there. These guys have had a long week, but we played great. We played our game, and it was really good fun."

Junior Norbert Nemcsek
On advancing to the Round of 16...
"It feels awesome. We beat the No. 1 team in the country. We're ready for our next match and hopefully we can keep it rolling and just take it match by match."

Georgia
Sophomore Ben Wagland
On tonight's match...
"We played a really good match today. We had a couple of losses recently in the tournament (as a team), so coming out here, we just both wanted to serve really well. That was the big thing today. Hernus really served well, and when we were down in the second set, we just believed that we could come back out of it. We played bigger and bigger and got through."

Senior Hernus Pieters
On tonight's match...
"I thought we played very well at the net today, which helped us. They were a very good team. We knew coming into the match that they would be tough. I remember watching them at National Indoors, and they were a very good team. We just played well."

On their mentality moving forward in the NCAA Tournament...
"We're going to have some good competition. Right now I'm just focusing on the match tomorrow. I haven't had a chance to look at the rest of the bracket yet because we're just taking it one match at a time."
