Bulldogs Battling Georgia Tech At Match Play Championship

GREENSBORO, Ga. --- Two members of the Georgia mens golf team will return to the course early Monday morning in an attempt to keep the Bulldogs in the winners bracket of the Callaway Golf Collegiate Match Play Championship.

On Sunday at Reynolds Plantations Oconee Course, darkness stopped the sixth-seeded Bulldogs second-round match with third-seeded Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets have a 2-1 advantage with two matches still up for grabs. The Bulldogs Brian Harman is leading Chesson Hadley 2-up through 16 holes, while Georgias Rob Bennett is trailing Cameron Tringale 2-up through 16.

Adam Mitchell secured the Bulldogs victory, topping David Dragoo 4 and 2. Georgias Harris English dropped a 3 and 2 decision to Taylor Hall, while Russell Henley fell to Paul Haley 4 and 3.

The winning team will advance to the third round on Monday to take on the winner of the South Carolina-Alabama match. The losing teams in the two matches will meet in the consolation bracket.

Earlier in the day, the Bulldogs topped 11th-seeded Lamar 3-2. In the Lamar match, Harman posted a 4 and 3 win over Russell Helson, English defeated Hugues Joannes 6 and 4, and Mitchell held on to beat Will Gilchrist 1-up. Hudson Swafford and Henley dropped 7 and 5 and 2 and 1 decisions, respectively.
