ATHENS, Ga. -- Chris Kirk of the Georgia men's golf team has been named the Southeastern Conference's Golfer of the Week, according to an announcement made Thursday by the league office.
Kirk, a sophomore from Woodstock, captured co-medalist honors at the inaugural Isleworth Invitational in Windermere, Fla., on Tuesday. Kirk was the only golfer in the field with under-par figures in all three rounds as he wound up at 7-under 209. For Kirk, the medalist title was the first of his career.
In addition, Kirk helped lead the Bulldogs to the team title with a three-day score of 863, 10 shots better than Oklahoma State.
For the fall, Kirk is averaging a team-best 70.44 strokes per round, the fourth-highest total in the SEC.
The Bulldogs will return to action Nov. 5-7 at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rocky Face, near Dalton.
