Bulldogs To Tee It Up In Brickyard Collegiate
ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia men’s golf team will be looking to recapture some past magic this weekend at the Third Annual Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship in Macon.

The tournament will take place Saturday through Monday at The Brickyard at Riverside with the teams playing 18 holes each day.

Georgia has dominated the tournament in its early years. The Bulldogs have claimed the team title in each of the first two years, plus Harris English won medalist honors in the inaugural event in 2007.

“We’ve had some good success at the Brickyard, and I am hoping the guys can feed off that,” Georgia coach Chris Haack. “Anytime you’re able to win a golf tournament, it boosts your confidence and reinforces all the work you put in. Our guys are looking forward to this tournament, and hopefully we can play well again.”

Haack will use a lineup of juniors English, Rob Bennett and Russell Henley (a Macon native), redshirt freshman T.J. Mitchell and freshman Brian Carter. In addition, sophomores Will Kropp and Lowery Thomas have been designated as individuals, meaning their scores cannot count toward the team score.

English, Bennett, Henley, Mitchell and Carter also made up the lineup for the first two tournaments of the season. The Bulldogs came in 10th at the Carpet Capital Collegiate and eighth in the Olympia Fields Illini Invitational. English captured medalist honors at the Illini Invitational.

Kropp will be making his season debut as he continues to work back from a pinched nerve in his neck. Thomas, a third-year sophomore for the Bulldogs, will be making his collegiate debut.

“Our guys have been working hard to improve this fall,” Haack said. “We’ve got a young team that has talent but not much experience. The only way to get that experience is to tee it up against the best teams in the country every week. That’s what we’ll be doing again this weekend in the Brickyard.”

Joining the Bulldogs and host Mercer will be Augusta State, Chattanooga, Charlotte, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, LSU, Michigan, Mississippi, North Florida, Penn State, Virginia Commonwealth and Virginia Tech.

The Brickyard at Riverside features a par-72, 7,128-yard layout designed by former tour pro Mark McCumber. In 2007, Golf Digest ranked the course No. 12 in the state of Georgia.
