ATHENS, Ga. --- The 17th-ranked Georgia men's golf team will continue the fall portion of its schedule next week at the PING/Golfweek Preview Invitational.
The tournament will be held Sunday through Tuesday at the Capital City Club Crabapple in Alpharetta. Crabapple (par-70, 7,246 yards) also will serve as the site of the NCAA Championship May 28-June 2, 2013.
"Getting to see and play this course is a tremendous opportunity," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "Our goal is to be in the thick of things when the spring rolls around, and having a practice round and three competitive rounds under our belts there will be advantageous. We'll be facing an elite field in this tournament, so we'll have to be ready for that, but I am sure our guys are up to that challenge."
The members of the 15-team field were invited to the Preview as the top prospective contenders for the national championship. As expected, 14 of the 15 are ranked in the Top 25, including No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 California and No. 3 Texas.
Haack will use the same lineup that came in second in the season-opening Carpet Capital Collegiate earlier this month: Senior T.J. Mitchell, juniors Joey Garber and Keith Mitchell, sophomore Nicholas Reach and freshman Lee McCoy. T.J. Mitchell posted a second-place individual finish with a career-best 10-under 206, while McCoy debuted in eighth at 4-under 212.
Tee times will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday and Monday and at 8 a.m. Tuesday. Live scoring will be available at golfstatresults.com. Admission is free all three days of the Preview.
