ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia men's golf team will open the fall portion of its 2010-11 schedule this weekend in the 22nd Annual Carpet Capital Collegiate.
The Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 3 by Golfweek and No. 4 by Golf World, will compete Friday though Sunday at The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face near Dalton.
The Bulldogs will use a lineup anchored by three senior All-Americans - Harris English, Russell Henley and Hudson Swafford. Henley and English finished as the Nos. 1 and 8 players, respectively, in the country last season. Swafford missed all of last year following shoulder surgery, but he was an All-American in 2008 and 2009. Georgia also will use 2010 SEC Freshman of the Year Bryden Macpherson and true freshman Michael Cromie.
"We are in a much better place than we were this time last year," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "We had eight guys on the team heading into the season, and injuries to a few of them really limited the competition in qualifying that is so important. This year, we've had great qualifying. The guys have all pushed each other to get better and stronger. We're excited about getting started and can't wait to see how things go this weekend."
Joining the Bulldogs and host Georgia Tech in the tournament will be Clemson, Wake Forest, Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas Tech, East Tennessee State and Chattanooga. At No. 7 in the Golfweek rankings, Alabama is the only other top-10 team in the field.
Live scoring and tee times will be available at golfstat.com. Additional tournament information can be found at thefarmgolfclub.org.
Georgia has won the Carpet Capital Collegiate twice - in 1999 and 2004. Chris Kirk is the only Bulldog to capture medalist honors, doing so in 2006.
The Farm Golf Club is set up as a par-72 covering 7,012 yards.
