Athens, Ga. -- The No. 1-ranked Georgia men's golf team already has four tournament titles this season. But to a man, the Bulldogs will tell you the biggest crowns are still out there.
Georgia will go after the first of those this weekend as it competes in the SEC Championship at the Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons. The Bulldogs and their SEC counterparts will square off Friday through Sunday on the par-70, 6,898-yard layout of the Seaside Course. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
"There's no question we're all very excited about the SEC Championship," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "If you had to choose two tournaments to win during the season, they would be the NCAA Championship and the SEC Championship. Competing against teams in your own league brings out the best in everyone. There is a lot of pride at stake here."
Haack will use a lineup of seniors Kevin Kisner and Richard Scott, juniors Chris Kirk and Brendon Todd, and freshman Brian Harman. Each Bulldog ranks among the league leaders in scoring average as Kirk is first at 70.78, Todd is fifth at 72.53, Harman is 10th at 73.0, Scott is 20th at 73.62 and Kisner is 26th at 73.75.
That quintet has been together for three events this season, including the Hooters Match Play Championship that the Bulldogs won in November. They also played together at the Carpet Capital Collegiate (third) and the Hall of Fame Invitational (eighth).
