ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia's Lee McCoy has been named the Southeastern Conference Golfer of the Week, according to an announcement Wednesday by the league office.
McCoy, a sophomore from Clarkesville, Ga., earned medalist honors for the first time in his career at the Met Intercollegiate on the Century Country Club and Old Oaks Country Club courses on Saturday. He was the only golfer under par at 6-under 135, including a course-record, 7-under 64 at Century, and he won by 11 shots.
McCoy now has a scoring average of 71.69 with four top-10s and seven top-20s in nine tournaments. He jumped to No. 10 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin individual rankings.
McCoy also helped the Bulldogs earn their third victory of the season. The Bulldogs fired a 16-over 580 -- a 3-over 287 at Century and a 13-over 293 at Old Oaks -- to top host Yale by 33 strokes. The Bulldogs earlier won the Dick's Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup in September and the Linger Longer Invitational in their last outing in March.
As a team, the Bulldogs moved to No. 2 this week in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings.
McCoy and the Bulldogs will return to action April 19 in the Capital City Club College Match Play Championship in Milton.
