Georgia Golfers Win Linger Longer Invitational
GREENSBORO The top-ranked Georgia men’s golf team won the Linger Longer Invitational on Saturday by two shots over No. 2 Oklahoma State.

The Bulldogs shot a final-round even-par 288 to wind up at 3-over 867 and win their fourth title in the last five meets. Oklahoma State came in second at 5-over 870. The Bulldogs and the Cowboys were tied heading into the final round.

“I am very proud of our team,” Georgia coach Chris Haack said. “I like the way we responded to the head-to-head competition with Oklahoma State. That should bode well for us as we go down the road.”

Senior Adam Mitchell paced the Bulldogs in the final round, notching a 2-under 70. Sophomore Harris English added a 1-under 71, followed by sophomore Russell Henley at 1-over 73 and senior Brian Harman at 2-over 74. Junior Hudson Swafford had the Bulldogs’ non-counting score of 4-over 76.

English came in fourth in the individual race at 6-under 210, two shots behind Oklahoma State’s Trent Whitekiller (who did not count toward OSU’s team total because he had been designated before the tournament as an individual). Mitchell tied for fifth at even-par 216, while Henley tied for seventh at 1-over 217, Swafford tied for 27th at 10-over 226 and Harman finished tied for 30th at 11-over 227.

Playing as individuals, senior Michael Green tied for seventh at 1-over 217 and freshman Will Kropp tied for 27th at 10-over 226. They closed with a 3-over 75 and a 2-over 74, respectively.

The Bulldogs will return to action April 5-7 at the United States Collegiate Championship in Alpharetta.
