GREENSBORO, Ga. --- The No. 1-ranked Georgia men’s golf team is tied for third place after the first round of the Linger Longer Invitational at Reynolds Landing on Friday.

Led by Russell Henley’s 5-under-par 67, the Bulldogs carded a 4-under 284 in the first round. Georgia, the two-time defending champion in the event, is seven shots behind Ole Miss’ 11-under 277.

Henley is tied for second individually, one stroke behind Chattanooga’s J.T. Clendenin. Henley, a freshman from Macon played bogey-free golf on Friday, notching birdies on Nos. 2, 5, 11, 16 and 17.

“Russell hit a lot of good shots today,” Georgia coach Chris Haack said. “I have really been impressed with the way Russell approaches golf. He really grinds in practice rounds and in tournaments, and he puts so much into it.”
