ATHENS, Ga. ---- The top-ranked Georgia men's golf team will continue the spring portion of its schedule this weekend in Las Vegas at the Southern Highlands Collegiate.
The tournament will be made up of 54 holes of stroke play Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com.
Including the Bulldogs and tournament host UNLV, 13 of the 15 teams competing at Southern Highlands Golf Club are ranked in the top 25 of the Golf Coaches Association of America/Bridgestone poll. The field consists of the No. 1 Bulldogs, No. 2 Georgia Tech, No. 3 Florida, No. 4 Oklahoma State, No. 8 Duke, No. 9 Arizona State, No. 10 UNLV, No. 14 Wake Forest, No. 19 Texas A&M, No. 21 Clemson and Nos. 23 Arizona and New Mexico.
"It's another exceptional field, but that kind of competition brings out the best in everyone," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "We're looking forward to playing in Vegas. It's always an exciting tournament, and we're just hoping to be one of the teams in contention in the final round."
Georgia will be using a lineup of seniors Kevin Kisner and Richard Scott, junior Chris Kirk, and freshmen Michael Green and Brian Harman. Kirk, the reigning SEC Golfer of the Week, leads the Bulldogs with a 69.28 scoring average.
Georgia is enjoying a successful campaign. The Bulldogs have won three stroke-play tournaments -- the Ping/Golfweek Preview, the Isleworth Invitational and last week's Puerto Rico Classic -- along with the Hooters Match Play Championship. The school record for tournament wins in a season is six, set by the 2001 squad.
