ATHENS, Ga. --- The No. 7 Georgia men's golf team will open the spring portion of its schedule in the 16th annual Puerto Rico Classic.
The Puerto Rico Classic will take place Sunday through Tuesday at the Rio Mar Beach Resort and Spa's River Course, which is a par-72 track covering 6,945 yards. The tournament will begin each day with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
Joining the Bulldogs will be Alabama, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, SMU, Northwestern, Purdue, Clemson, North Carolina, Missouri, UNC-Greensboro, East Tennessee State, North Carolina State and Michigan.
The Bulldogs will use a lineup of seniors Michael Cromie, Joey Garber and Keith Mitchell, sophomore Lee McCoy and freshman Greyson Sigg. Garber leads the Bulldogs with a scoring average of 69.75, including a win in The Invitational at The Ocean Course and two other top-5 finishes in the fall. McCoy is averaging 71.87, followed by Cromie at 72.07, Mitchell at 72.89 and Sigg at 74.11.
The Bulldogs played five events last fall, highlighted by a victory in the Dick's Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup. Georgia was second twice, third once and fourth once.
The Bulldogs have won the Puerto Rico Classic three times (2006, 2007 and 2009).
