ATHENS, Ga. --- Paced by individual leader Nicholas Reach, the fourth-ranked Georgia men's golf team ascended to the top of the leaderboard on Friday at the Sixth Annual Brickyard Collegiate Championship.

The Bulldogs posted an 8-under 280 in the first round on Friday at The Brickyard at Riverside, which is a par-72 layout covering 7,175 yards. Georgia will head into Saturday's second round with a 3-shot advantage over North Florida.

Reach, a sophomore, signed for a 4-under 68 for a 1-shot edge over seven players. Reach recorded five birdies, including a stretch of three straight on the front nine, and only one bogey.

Senior T.J. Mitchell notched a 2-under 70 for ninth place, while junior Brian Carter and freshman Lee McCoy each added a 1-under 71 for 12th place. Sophomore Sepp Straka had the Bulldogs' non-counting score of 5-over 77. Playing as individuals, junior Keith Mitchell fired a 2-over 74 and sophomore Sam Straka shot a 3-over 75.

"I could not be happier with the way we played today," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "The guys were really focused and played with a lot of confidence. That's the way we need to keep playing the rest of the weekend."

The Brickyard Collegiate Championship will continue on Saturday and will conclude on Sunday. Live scoring and additional information can be found at golfstat.com and brickyardcollegiate.org.
