ALPHARETTA, Ga. --- The 17th-ranked Georgia men's golf team finished eighth in the PING/Golfweek Preview Invitational on Tuesday at the Capital City Club.
Playing the Crabapple Course, the site of the 2013 NCAA Championships, the Bulldogs carded a final-round even-par 280 for a three-day total of 19-over 859. Co-champions honors went to host Georgia Tech and California at 5-over 845.
Senior T.J. Mitchell and sophomore Nicholas Reach paced the Bulldogs on Tuesday as each signed for a 3-under 67. Junior Joey Garber followed at even-par 70, while junior Keith Mitchell posted a 6-over 76 and freshman Lee McCoy had the non-counting score of 9-over 79.
Reach came in second individually at even-par 210, trailing San Diego State's Tom Berry by just two shots. T.J. Mitchell wound up at 5-over 215, while Garber and Keith Mitchell were at 10-over 220 and McCoy was at 13-over 223.
"We had plenty of positives that we can build on from this tournament," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "Perhaps most importantly, we got valuable experience on this golf course. Hopefully that will pay dividends in the spring. We'll get back to work, fine tune the things we need to, and come out swinging at the next one."
The Bulldogs will return to action Oct. 5-7 in the Brickyard Collegiate Championship in Macon.
