ROCKY FACE, Ga. --- The 11th-ranked Georgia men's golf team placed second in the Carpet Capital Collegiate on Sunday at The Farm.
The Bulldogs fired a final-round 5-under 283 to wind up at 8-under 856 for the tournament. Event host Georgia Tech claimed team honors at 14-under 850.
Junior Nicholas Reach paced the Bulldogs on Sunday with a 3-under 69, followed by freshman Greyson Sigg at 2-under 70, and senior Joey Garber and sophomore Lee McCoy both at even-par 72. Senior Michael Cromie had the Bulldogs' non-counting score of 2-over 74.
Garber finished fourth individually at 4-under 212, five shots behind Georgia Tech's Ollie Schniederjans and North Carolina's Bailey Patrick. Cromie took fifth at 2-under 214, while McCoy and Sigg were 20th at 2-over 218 and Reach wound up at 6-over 222.
Playing as an individual, junior Sam Straka fired a 1-under 71 on Sunday to place 12th at even-par 216.
"Our goal was to win the tournament, so we're disappointed that didn't happen, but we are leaving here with a lot of positives," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "Our guys put up some really good scores, especially in the second and third rounds. We'll build on the good things and keep pushing forward. I am really proud of the guys."
The Bulldogs will return to action Sept. 20-22 in the Ingram Invitational in Nashville, Tenn.
