EATONTON, Ga. --- The 25th-ranked Georgia men's golf team is in second place after two rounds of the Linger Longer Invitational.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs logged two rounds at the Great Waters Course at Reynolds Plantation. Georgia shot 2-over 290 in the first round and 9-under 279 in the second round for a total of 7-under 569. The Bulldogs are five shots behind Alabama (564).
"I can't say enough about the way we took care of things in the second round," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "After the first round, we were down by 12 shots, but we came back with energy and focus in the afternoon, and we really handled things well. We're right back in it now. With one round left, we've got a shot, and that's all a coach or his players can ever hope for."
Nicholas Reach and Brian Carter paced the Bulldogs on Saturday, each winding up at 4-under 140 and in fourth place individually. Reach had rounds of 1-under 71 and 3-under 69, while Carter signed for a pair of 2-under 70s. They are just one shot out of first, trailing tri-leaders James Beale of Mercer, Jeff Karlsson of Kennesaw State and Max Scodro of Notre Dame.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs playing as individuals, Michael Cromie is at 3-under 141 following rounds of even-par 72 and 3-under 69. Sam Straka (79-66) is at 1-over 145 and Sepp Straka (73-76) is at 5-over 149.
The final round of the Linger Longer Invitational will be played on Sunday. Live scoring and tee times can be found at golfstat.com.
