Darkness Stops Golfers At Linger Longer

GREENSBORO, Ga. --- The No. 12 Georgia men’s golf team was in fifth place at 5-over for the tournament when darkness suspended play at the Linger Longer Invitational at the Great Waters Course at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro.

The Bulldogs shot a 3-over-par 291 in the first round on Friday before suspending play in the second round. Second round play will resume at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, which will be followed by the final round. No. 2 Alabama has the team lead at 13-under for the tournament.

Sophomore Nicholas Reach is tied for third place after firing off a 4-under 68 in the first round and remaining even through 12 holes in the second round. Junior Keith Mitchell shot a 2-under 70 and remained even through 13 holes to tie for eighth before play was stopped for the day. Competing as an individual, junior Mookie DeMoss is also tied for eighth after a first round 72 and shooting 2-under through nine holes.

Senior T.J. Mitchell is currently tied for 31st at 3-over-par after shooting a first-round 76 and being 1-under through twelve in the second round. Junior Brian Carter shot a 77 in the first round and is 3-over through 12 to tie for 57th. Freshman Lee McCoy had the Bulldogs’ non-counting first-round score of 79. He was 3-over through 14 before play was suspended.

Also competing as individuals are junior Michael Cromie and sophomore Sepp Straka. Cromie is tied for 54th after firing off a 6-over 78 in the first round and currently shooting at 1-over par through 10. Straka, who shot a 4-over 76 in the first round and is 4-over through 10 holes, is tied for 57th.
