Dec. 19, 2012
A lot of the success of the 2012 Georgia Bulldogs can be traced to the emergence of freshman tailback Todd Gurley. Starting from game one when Gurley rushed for over 100 yards and scored two touchdowns to go along with a 100-yard kick return for a score, Gurley had a remarkable rookie campaign. On the season, Gurley totaled 1,260 yards on 199 carries and totaled 16 rushing touchdowns to lead the rushing attack and combined with fellow freshman Keith Marshall to total 24 touchdowns and 1,983 yards. Gurley trails only Herschel Walker (1,616) and Knowshon Moreno (1,334) for rushing yards gained by a freshman. Gurley and Marshall set the mark for most rushing yards gained by a Georgia freshen duo passing Thomas Brown and Danny Ware in 2004. In addition to his rushing prowess, Gurley returned 7 kicks for 243 yards and one score. Gurley led the team in all-purpose yards with 1,616 yards and total points with 102.
