Dec. 6, 2013

ATHENS-----University of Georgia senior quarterback Aaron Murray has been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Division I football team, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Murray is among 24 players selected to the first team. The Tampa, Fla., native was named to the second team in 2012.

The Capital One Academic All-America program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. This marks the 25th time a Georgia player has earned Academic All-America distinction and the 19th time a Bulldog has been selected to the first team. Murray is one of six Bulldogs to be recognized as a multi-year Academic All-American, joining Bob Etter, Terry Hoage, Matt Stinchcomb, Jon Stinchcomb and Drew Butler.

This also marks the fourth straight year a Georgia player has garnered Academic All-America honors, following Drew Butler in 2010 and 2011, and Ty Frix and Murray in 2012. Georgia is the only SEC school with a representative on the 2013 Academic All-America first team.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his current institution.

Murray graduated with a degree in Psychology in 2011 after posting a GPA of 3.3 and then recorded a 4.0 in his first semester of his Psychology doctorate program.

The three-time First Team Academic All-District selection was a member of the 2012 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, and he was named one of 12 finalists for the Wuerffel Trophy, which honors the college football player who best combines exemplary community service with outstanding academic and athletic achievement. He was also one of 16 players nationwide who earned one of the prestigious National Football Foundation (NFF) Scholar-Athlete Awards.

Murray was among four Bulldogs named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Team. District winners advanced to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

Murray set four SEC career records in his final season as a Bulldog, including touchdown passes, total offense, passing yards and completions. In addition, he is also the SEC’s leading player in TD responsibility (137). His 13,166 passing yards are No. 2 nationally among active FBS quarterbacks.
