Statistically Speaking by Dave McMahon

The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry turned out to be pretty one-sided. The Bulldogs looked great on offense, defense and special teams, and with the win they clinched the SEC East title and will travel to Atlanta later this season for a chance to win the SEC Championship. It will be the second time in team's history that the Dawgs will be going to back-to-back SEC Championships. They first did it in 2002 with a win and 2003 with a loss. Before the SEC Championship begins, they will face two in-state rivals. Here's a look at the past, present and future when it comes to the Bulldogs.
So for all you passionate fans, here are some more notes, nuggets and tidbits of information all things Georgia Bulldogs, statistically speaking of course. And now for the extra stuff...
With the victory over Auburn, Georgia has now tied the overall series with the Tigers. The series is knotted up at 54-54-8. That's as close as it gets. The series used to be close in total points scored as well. In fact through games through 2010, Georgia only had a 38-point edge in the series. Then in 2011, Georgia defeated Auburn 45-7, or an additional 38 points. This season, Georgia won 38-0 or, once again, a total of 38 points.
It was the first shut-out by the Bulldogs since a win against Coastal Carolina last season, and it was the first against a SEC team since the win against Vanderbilt in 2010. It was also the first shutout against Auburn since 1976. Overall, the Bulldogs have posted seven shutouts under Mark Richt, and the 4th straight season with a shutout. Here is a look on how many shutouts each head coach at Georgia has had since 1939.
Aaron Murray had another outstanding game. He completed 18 of 24 passes for 208 yards and three touchdowns against Auburn. For his career he has 10 TD passes and 0 interceptions against the Tigers. Of his 83 career TD passes, Auburn is the team he has victimized the most. Here are the teams where Murray has the most career TD passes against.
Murray has 24 touchdown passes this season. It is his 3rd straight season with at least that number. Here are the most TD passes in a season by a Georgia Bulldog (you will notice the current gunslinger mentioned a few times)
The freshmen running backs were at it again. Todd Gurley had 116 rush yards and Keith Marshall had 105 rush yards vs Auburn. Entering this week, the duo of "Gurshall" had 1,598 rushing yards for the season. That is the most ever by any Bulldog frosh pair for a single season. Entering this week, Georgia leads the FBS in most rushing yards by freshmen this season. Here are the top 6.
It was the 3rd time this season that both Gurley and Marshall have each gone for over 100 in the same game (FAU and Tennessee were the other two).
Here are the individual leaders in the SEC when it comes to 100-yard rush games.
In the Auburn game, Keith Marshall had a 62-yard touchdown run. Georgia has 21 offensive plays this season that has gone at least 40 yards. Here is a list of the FBS teams with the most 40+ yard offensive plays.
Tavarres King had another touchdown catch. He was already in the top-10 in Georgia's career mark for TD receptions and receiving yards and now you can add another top-10. He has 124 career receptions which makes him tied for 10th all-time with Andre Hastings.
The defense has stepped it up as well. Here's a breakdown on how this version of the Junkyard Dawg defense has looked as of late.
Jarvis Jones has just been named a finalist for the Butkus Award trophy and a semi-finalist for the Lott IMPACT trophy. Jones has been a terror on the field, and this past Saturday was no different as he notched two more sacks. He now has 10 ½ sacks on the season which is the 2nd highest total in the SEC this season behind Mississippi State's Damontre Moore. Jones had 13 ½ sacks last season for the Dawgs. Jones became just the 3rd Bulldog to have 10 or more sacks in two separate seasons. Here are the three players.
Last season Jones was an All-American, as was safety Bacarri Rambo. In the last game Rambo nabbed an interception. It was his 2nd of the season and his 15th of his career. He is now in 2nd place by himself for most career interceptions for Georgia and is one behind leader Jake Scott. His 15 picks is also the 4th most by any active player in the FBS. Here are the top-5.
Both Collin Barber and Adam Erickson have been outstanding as of late. In the last game, Barber punted the ball four times and three times the football was downed inside the 20-yard line. Erickson punted once and that too was downed inside the 20. Even better, three of those kicks were downed inside the 5-yard line. On the season, Barber has landed punts inside the twenty 14 times in 46 punts this season and Erickson has done it 5 times in 8 punts. Throughout his career at Georgia, former Ray Guy Award winner Drew Butler booted 60 of his 167 punts inside the 20. And now for the extra stuff...
Men's Basketball ---
Bulldog Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is on a scoring tear to start the season. In the first three games he has put up 17, 27 and 17 points for a total of 61. Last season through three games he had a total of 40 points. It is extremely early, but KCP is averaging over 20 points per game. The last player to average over 20 points per game for a season was Litterial Green when he averaged 20.6 points per game during the 1990-91 season.
Women's Basketball ---
The Lady Bulldogs have started off the new season with an impressive 2-0 record. One player that is new to most Georgia fans is freshman Shacobia Barbee. She went to Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. While in high school she racked up 468 career steals. So in Georgia's first game, it was surprising to see she had zero steals in 21 minutes against Rutgers. Her second game was a little different. Barbee had a team-high 5 steals against Presbyterian. Here are the players that have 5 or more steals in a game for Andy Landers' squad the last 5 seasons...
2012-2013: Shacobia Barbee (1 time)
This Friday, the swim teams at Georgia jump in the pool and face Emory. Emory is a school that the Bulldogs don't face much in other sports, but in the world of swimming and diving, the two schools have faced each other quite often. Georgia has had some success against the in-state rival. In fact, the women have never lost to Emory, Here's the list of the top-5 teams that Georgia has the most wins against in both men's and women's swimming and diving.
Bulldogs in the NBA ---
Damien Wilkins is currently a shooting guard for the Philadelphia 76ers. In limited time he has scored 7 points and now has 3,190 points in his career. Here the most points scored in the NBA by former Georgia Bulldogs:
Bulldogs in the NFL ---
In an upset victory of the defending Super Bowl champion Giants, A.J. Green scored another touchdown. He has a TD reception in 8 of 9 games for the Cincinnati Bengals, and a total of nine on the season. His total leads the entire NFL, and he's only three from the most ever single-season TD receptions in the NFL by a former Bulldog. Here's that leaderboard.
For the 3rd time this season, Tim Jennings had two interceptions in one game. This time it happened against the Houston Texans. Here is a list of players that used to play for Georgia that have had two or more interceptions in a game in the NFL (Champ Bailey had 3 in a game back in 1999.)
