The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry! Georgia vs Auburn! In my opinion Georgia and their fans are more like Auburn than any of our other rivals. We are very similar in many ways and maybe that's why our overall record with them is tied. Georgia has won 54 and Auburn has won 54 and there have been 8 ties. Georgia has won more there and Auburn has won more here in Athens. Georgia has had former coaches than were Auburn grads most notably Vince Dooley and Erk Russell and some Auburn coaches have been Georgia grads like Pat Dye. Many people have coached both places such as Rodney Garner. Even some players have played in both places including the opposing quarterback Nick Marshall. So Georgia knows Auburn and Auburn knows Georgia. Sometimes UGA, Georgia's mascot has to get involved as in 1996 or maybe a hose incident happens like it did in 1986. So, it may come down to an unexpected play or something they don't know. If you are looking for things you may not know; you came to the right place. Hunker Down One More Time!
So for all you passionate fans, here are some more notes, nuggets and tidbits of information all things Georgia Bulldogs, statistically speaking of course. Like I mentioned above, Georgia and Auburn are the deep south's oldest rivalry. This will be the 117th time the two has faced each other. Auburn was Georgia's 2nd ever opponent back in 1892. There have only been a few seasons that the two haven't faced since the Bulldogs have been a team and some were due to war. Here are those seasons.
Georgia has been great in the series as of late. The Dawgs have won 6 of the last 7 meetings. Overall Mark Richt is 8-4 against Auburn. The most wins against Auburn by a Georgia head coach is 11 and one of those coaches was former Auburn player and assistant coach Vince Dooley. Here is the most wins by a Georgia head coach against Auburn.
|Vince Dooley||11 wins|
|Wally Butts||11 wins|
|Mark Richt||8 wins|
|Harry Mehre||5 wins|
|Kid Woodruff||5 wins|
Georgia comes in ranked 25th and Auburn comes in ranked 7th. The Bulldogs has won their fare share of games when the Tigers come ranked. Here are those wins.

Aaron Murray finally broke the SEC record for most career touchdown passes. It seems like I have been talking about that for weeks. The senior record holder now has 115 in his career. The team where he has the most career touchdowns against is Auburn and he has only faced the Tigers three times. Here are the top six teams where Murray has the most touchdown passes against.
|Against Auburn||10 TD passes|
|Against Georgia Tech||9 TD passes|
|Against South Carolina||8 TD passes|
|Against Florida||7 TD passes|
|Against Tennessee||7 TD passes|
|Against Vanderbilt||7 TD passes|
Todd Gurley had a modest game against Appalachian State by rushing for 75 yards and scoring a touchdown. With those 75 yards, the sophomore went over 2,000 for his career. Gurley is currently 14th all-time on Georgia's career rush yard list. Here are some of the Bulldogs that he may pass in the near future.
|10th||Musa Smith||2,208 rush yards|
|11th||Tim Worley||2,038 rush yards|
|12th||Robert Edwards||2,033 rush yards|
|13th||Glynn Harrison||2,031 rush yards|
|14th||Todd Gurley||2,010 rush yards|
On the receiving end, Michael Bennett caught the touchdown pass which gave Murray the record. His catch was also Bennett's 12th career touchdown reception. The 12 is good for a tied for 10th place. Here are other people that he is tied for 12th with. One is a Super Bowl MVP and another is one of his current teammates. The other are pretty good themselves.
In the game, 13 different Bulldogs caught passes. Of those 13, nine have 10 or less career receptions. Here are some of the excited Dawgs that made their mark.
|Reggie Davis||10 career receptions|
|Brendan Douglas||10 career receptions|
|J.J. Green||8 career receptions|
|Quayvon Hicks||5 career receptions|
|Jonathan Rumph||4 career receptions|
|Michael Erdman||3 career receptions|
|Blake Tibbs||2 career receptions|
|Merritt Hall||2 career receptions|
|Kenneth Towns||1 career reception|
The Kenneth Towns catch was a touchdown thrown by Hutson Mason. It was Mason's first touchdown pass of the season and he first since 2011. He now has four career TD passes. Here are all 4.
|2010 vs UL-Lafayette||26-yard pass to Logan Gray|
|2011 vs Coastal Carolina||33-yard pass to Orson Charles|
|2011 vs New Mexico State||23-yard pass to Rhett McGowan|
|2013 vs Appalachian State||3-yard pass to Kenneth Towns|
The Dawgs defense added three more sacks last week and now have 26 on the season. The 26 is 2nd in the SEC. They offensive line has allowed just 11 sacks on the season which is 4th best in the conference. Their sack differential of +15 is the 3rd best. Here are the top 5.
The 26 sacks have happened in just 9 games. That is an average of 2.9 sacks per game. That is the 4th best in a season under Mark Richt. Here are the top five best sack averages by a Mark Richt season.
|2007||42 sacks in 13 games||3.23 sacks per game|
|2002||45 sacks in 14 games||3.21 sacks per game|
|2004||37 sacks in 12 games||3.08 sacks per game|
|2013||26 sacks in 9 games||2.89 sacks per game|
|2005||34 sacks in 13 games||2.62 sacks per game|
Unfortunately for Bulldog fans, the soccer season has ended after their loss in the SEC Championship. They finished the season at 12-7-1 which is an improvement of last season's record of 7-11-2. Here are some other things they improved on.
|Last Season||This Season|
Georgia had another successful week last week as they shutout South Carolina 3-0 at home. They also defeated South Carolina 3-0 in Columbia in early October. Overall Georgia has 8 SEC wins and they still have 4 conference games to go in the regular season. Last season they had 8 SEC wins for the entire season. They have not posted more than 8 since the 2008 season. In volleyball schedules, including conference schedules has been very different throughout the years. So this stat may be a little misleading, but it is still fun to look at especially when you look on all the big things that this team has in its future. Here are the most SEC wins the Georgia volleyball team has had in a season since 1983.
Georgia travels to the Magnolia State as they take on Ole Miss on Friday and Mississippi State on Sunday.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ---
Andy Landers and his group of Lady Bulldogs started off with a win last week against Presbyterian. It was the 12th time in the last 13 seasons that Georgia has won their season opener. Senior Khaalidah Miller did a little bit of everything in the game. She played all 40 minutes, scoring 7 points and got 2 steals. She also tied her career-highs in rebounds with 11 and in assists with 6. Since 2000, only four Lady Bulldogs have had over 10 rebounds and 5 assists without scoring in double-digits. Here are those 4 players.
|Ebony Felder||2002 vs South Carolina||4 pts, 11 reb, 5 ast|
|Angel Robinson||2009 vs Alabama||0 pts, 12 reb, 5 ast|
|Ronika Ransford||2010 vs Mercer||8 pts, 11 reb, 6 ast|
|Khaalidah Miller||2013 vs Presbyterian||7 pts, 11 reb, 6 ast|
Georgia's next game is Thursday at home vs Mercer and then on Sunday at home vs Ohio State.
MEN'S BASKETBALL ---
Mark Fox also pulled off a win in their season opener. The Bulldogs defeated Wofford by 20 points in a 72-52 win. Just like in their exhibition win, the Dawgs controlled the boards. They out-rebounded the Terriers 49 to 24. Leading the team was senior Donte' Williams with 9. He only played 18 minutes so he could easily had more. His career high is 13 which also came against Wofford back in 2011. Here are his top seven rebound games.
|2011 vs Wofford||13 rebounds|
|2012 vs Iona||10 rebounds|
|2011 vs Delaware State||9 rebounds|
|2012 vs Auburn||9 rebounds|
|2012 vs Arkansas||9 rebounds|
|2013 vs South Carolina||9 rebounds|
|2013 vs Wofford||9 rebounds|
Georgia has a huge game this Friday at home against their in-state rival Georgia Tech.
BULLDOGS IN THE NBA ---
Last season Georgia's MVP was Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. This season he is in the NBA and playing for the Detroit Pistons. KCP has played in 5 games so far averaging 7.2 points per game. His 36 total points is a good start, but needs a lot more to enter this list of the most points scored by a Georgia Bulldog in their rookie season in the NBA. Here are the top five.
|Willie Anderson||1988-89 with Spurs||1,508 points|
|Dominique Wilkins||1982-83 with Hawks||1,434 points|
|Vern Fleming||1984-85 with Pacers||1,126 points|
|Jarvis Hayes||2003-04 with Wizards||673 points|
|Alec Kessler||1990-91 with Heat||486 points|
BULLDOGS IN THE NFL ---
Knowshon Moreno helps out his Denver Broncos every way he can these days. Either running the ball, catching the ball or making a key block, the former Bulldog is there. This past week he had 65 yards rushing and 49 yards receiving. On the season he has 521 yards rushing and 336 yards receiving. The Broncos have seven more regular season games to go, so these numbers should get much higher. If he improves just a little he can become the 4th different Bulldog to have 2,000 yards from scrimmage in an NFL season. Here is the top five marks in that category.
|Terrell Davis||1998 with Broncos||2,008 rush, 217 rec||2,225 total|
|Garrison Hearst||1998 with 49ers||1,570 rush, 535 rec||2,105 total|
|Terrell Davis||1997 with Broncos||1,750 rush, 287 rec||2,037 total|
|Herschel Walker||1988 with Cowboys||1,514 rush, 505 rec||2,019 total|
|Terrell Davis||1996 with Broncos||1,538 rush, 310 rec||1,848 total|
A.J. Green had a big game last week as well. Doesn't he always have big weeks? Anyway he had 151 yards receiving and now leads the NFL with 1,013 receiving yards on the season. Hines Ward and A.J. Green are the only former Bulldogs with 1,000 receiving yards in a season. Ward had six, Green now has three. A.J. Green is only 25 years old. Jimmy Orr had two seasons with over 900 including 974 with the 1962 Baltimore Colts (almost).
