ATHENS, Ga. -- The No.19 Georgia Bulldogs fell 24-17 to No.24 Auburn Saturday in front of a sellout Sanford Stadium crowd of 86,520 and a CBS national television audience. The Bulldogs' final scoring attempt fell short as running back Jasper Sanks was stopped at the goal line with the clock running off the final seconds of the game and Georgia having no way to stop it.

The game was a back-and-forth battle in the South's oldest rivalry. Georgia scored first as quarterback David Greene hit receiver Fred Gibson for a 67-yard score with less than a minute run off the game clock. Auburn would answer late in the quarter as Tiger running back Carnell Williams scored on a one-yard run.
