ATHENS-----The fifth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs are close to finalizing preparations for their upcoming Southeastern Conference road contest with Auburn.

Bulldog coach Mark Richt said practice has been going well this week as Georgia (8-1, 6-1 SEC) has a chance to clinch the Eastern Division title with a victory over the Tigers.

"We had another excellent day of practice, working on fundamentals and the game plan," said Richt.

Richt indicated that junior guard Chris Burnette, who missed practice due to a shoulder injury again Wednesday, has a good chance to travel this week and possibly be ready. Sophomore Mark Beard has seen action at tackle and guard this season while sophomore Wattts Dantzler and junior Austin Long have been getting "reps" at practice this week too.

"I'm not sure how we'd rotate the guys in there," Richt added. "I'm glad Mark has been getting an opportunity to play because the more he plays, he is getting more comfortable. After Mark, the two closest guys would be Watts and Austin."

With senior split end Marlon Brown now out for the year after going down with a knee injury last week against Ole Miss, Richt was asked about sophomore Chris Conley who looks to see more playing time.

"Chris works hard every day, he's in good condition and is comfortable going full speed because he knows what to do," said Richt. "He doesn't mind blocking, he can mix it up, and he's got good hands. I think he'll do well."

The Tigers (2-7, 0-6 SEC) garnered their second win of the season last week, posting a 42-7 decision over New Mexico State on the Plains. Meanwhile, Georgia dispatched Ole Miss 37-10 in Athens.

The Tigers play host to the Bulldogs Saturday at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Auburn leads the series against Georgia with a 54-53-8 record. The Bulldogs have won seven of the last 10 meetings. The teams have met every year since 1944, and it is the Deep South's oldest rivalry.
