ATHENS, Ga. ---The Georgia Bulldogs (4-3, 3-2 SEC) continued to prepare for this weekend's annual showdown with interstate rival Florida (4-3, 3-2 SEC) with a two-hour practice in helmets, jerseys, shoulder pads and shorts on Tuesday afternoon in Athens.
The Bulldogs and Gators will meet at EverBank Field in Jacksonville this weekend.
After practice, offensive line coach Will Friend talked about center David Andrews and guard Chris Burnette, who will serve as offensive captains against Florida.
"Both David and Chris have played well this season and they've both shown great leadership," Friend said. "They've done a good job of leading the guys and leading this team and they've played well when we've needed them to."
Earlier in the afternoon, head coach Mark Richt and several Bulldog players took part in the team's game week press conference and discussed the matchup with Florida.
"Both teams are a lot alike this year," Richt said. "Both teams are 4-3 and both of us have two losses in league play. Both of us lost a game out of conference and then lost the last two games. Both teams have had a lot of injury issues and both are fighting to try to stay in the race for the East. There are a lot of similarities in that regard."
Richt also talked about the status of tailback Todd Gurley, who has missed Georgia's last two games after suffering an ankle sprain in the first half of the Bulldogs' win over No. 6 LSU on Sept. 28.
"After yesterday, I'm convinced (that he's going to play against Florida)," Richt said. "He's a great player. He's a guy that usually if you block for zero yards, he gets about two or three. If you block for three or four, he gets about seven or eight. If you block it just right, anything can happen. He's a very good pass protector, and he's improved a lot on route running and ball catching. He's a complete back, and he's a dynamic player really. Hopefully he's 100 percent and we can get him some space to see what he can do."
Saturday's game with the Gators will be broadcast nationally by CBS, with kickoff slated for just after 3:39 p.m. ET.
