ATHENS, Ga. --- The No. 11-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (0-1) practiced in full pads for approximately two and a half hours on Tuesday, traditionally their most physical practice of a game week. The Bulldogs are continuing to prepare to host No. 6 South Carolina (1-0) in their Southeastern Conference and home opener this Saturday.

Georgia's assistant coaches visited with the media following the session. Defensive coordinator Todd Grantham discussed the challenges South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw presents.

"First of all, he's their leading rusher coming back this year," Grantham said. "You've got a quarterback that's gritty, knows how to manage the game, can throw it in the right spot, can not turn the ball over and when things break down he can make plays with his feet. All that stuff, basically, accentuates what they do from a running game standpoint. With the playmakers that they already have, it makes their offense a lot better."

Earlier on Tuesday, head coach Mark Richt and select players took part in the Bulldogs' weekly press conference and discussed Saturday's matchup with the Gamecocks.

“It’s a big game for both teams," Richt said. "Obviously it’s the first conference game for both teams to set the tone for the future. We don’t have a game next week. We have an open date, and there’s not a whole lot we should be holding back. We need to get better at a lot of things fundamentally. We need to be able to block better and tackle better, especially in space. That’s what today and tomorrow will be about in practice. Of course we’ll be installing our game plan as well. That’s where we are.
"South Carolina is a very good football team obviously," Richt added. "The last couple of years they have won 11 ballgames and they’ve beaten us three years in a row. We have a great challenge ahead of us. We have maybe a few redshirt seniors who have been on a team that had a victory over South Carolina, but no one else has had that distinction.”

Kickoff for Saturday's game at Sanford Stadium is slated for 4:31 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN.
