Bulldogs Have Clean Practice

Player Interviews | Coach Richt's Press Conference

Aug. 31, 2010

ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia Bulldogs practiced for just over two hours in shoulder pads and shorts on Tuesday afternoon as they continue to make final preparations for this weekend's season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette.

"Today was much better than yesterday in terms of tempo and effort," head coach Mark Richt said. "For the first time this fall, the defense had zero penalties. And the offense only had one penalty. Overall, that was the fewest of the fall. That's pretty good."

Earlier on Tuesday, Richt discussed Saturday's game with the Ragin' Cajuns at length during the Bulldogs' game week press conference.

Fred Munzenmaier will captain the special teams on Saturday.

"It's great to be undefeated and in a great mood," Richt said. "This is awesome. Now we have to play. Rickey Bustle, I've known Rickey a long time. I knew Rickey when he was coaching at Virginia Tech for years and kind of exchanged a lot of ideas offensively over the years. Not a lot lately, but back in the day. I have a very high respect for Rickey and what he is doing. He's entering his ninth season there, which is great. I didn't realize it until today, he coached Todd Grantham back in his day. I know coach Grantham will be excited about hooking up with coach Bustle."

Richt expects his team to be ready to face opposition on Saturday after practicing against each other for more than a month.

"I know our guys will be excited," Richt said. "It looks like the weather is starting to cool down a little bit possibly by then, which will probably be good for everybody including the fans. I hope it does cool down to the mid-80s anyway. We're just looking forward to playing. We're looking forward to getting it kicked off and just seeing what we've got."

Georgia has been ranked No. 21 and No. 23 in the preseason editions of the USA Today coaches and Associated Press polls, respectively. Kickoff against the Ragin' Cajuns is set for 12:21 p.m., and the contest will be televised on the SEC Network nationwide.
