ATHENS, Ga. --- Current Philadelphia Eagle Brandon Boykin highlighted a group of former Georgia football players who graduated from the University of Georgia on August 1.

Boykin, a native of Fayetteville, Ga., graduated with a degree in Journalism.  Boykin is in his third season as a cornerback for the Eagles after a stellar career with the Bulldogs from 2008-11.  He was awarded the 2011 Paul Hornung Award for his versatility for Georgia, playing roles on defense, offense and special teams.  For the Eagles, Boykin was tied for second in the league last year with six interceptions.

Former Bulldog Josh Mallard also returned to earn his degree in Sociology.  The defensive end from Savannah, Ga., finished with 18 sacks for the Georgia defense from 1998-2001.  Mallard suited up for four different NFL teams from 2002-08.

 

Another current NFL player and former Bulldog, Cincinnati Bengal safety Shawn Williams, also completed his degree in Housing over the summer.  Recording 12 tackles in his first season with the Bengals last year, Williams played for Georgia from 2009-12.  The Damascus, Ga., native started all 14 games as a senior and was second on the team in 2012 with 98 stops

 

Five other players from the 2013 team also graduated at the end of the summer semester.  Brandon Burrows (Marietta, Ga.), Marc Deas (Kissimmee, Fla.) and Parker Welch (Jesup, Ga.) earned their degrees in Communication Studies, Kenarious Gates (Grantville, Ga.) graduated with a degree in Risk Management and Insurance and T.J. Stripling (Decatur, Ga.) finished with a degree in Housing.

 

The 12th-ranked Bulldogs open their 2014 schedule Aug. 30 when they play host to 16th-ranked Clemson at 5:30 p.m.  The contest will be televised by ESPN.
