ATHENS, Ga. --- Former University of Georgia football players Rodney Hampton and Willie McClendon will be inducted into the Georgia-Florida Hall of Fame in October, according to an announcement made this week by the Jacksonville Sports and Entertainment Board.
Joining Hampton and McClendon in the Class of 2006 will be ex-Gators Ike Hilliard and Lee McGriff. An official induction ceremony will be held at noon on Friday, Oct. 27, at the Championship Dreams Tent outside Alltel Stadium. The Bulldogs and the Gators will renew their rivalry the following day.
Hampton played tailback for the Bulldogs from 1987-89 and helped Georgia post three victories against the Gators. In those contests, Hampton had 62 rushes for 288 yards, two receptions for 33 yards and two touchdowns.
McClendon also played tailback for Georgia from 1976-78 and was a part of two wins in the series. He had 46 rushes for 276 yards and three touchdowns against the Gators, highlighted by his 162-yard, two-touchdown performance in 1977. He also coached for Georgia in the series from 1989-93.
