Joe Tereshinski, Sr., Dies in Athens at Age 89

ATHENS--------- Joe Tereshinski, Sr., who played on the University of Georgia 1942 a national championship team, died in Athens Sunday morning at the age of 89.

Tereshinski played on the 1942 national championship team, the 1942 and '46 SEC champions, and three bowl championship teams: 1943 Rose Bowl, 1946 Oil Bowl, and 1947 Sugar Bowl.

He was the 119th player chosen in the NFL draft by the Washington Redskins and played end and defensive end with the Redskins from 1947-54. Tereshinski was named to the Associated Press All-SEC second team in 1946.

Sons Joe Tereshinski, Jr., and Wally Tereshinski both played for the Bulldogs as did his grandson, Joe, III. Joe and Wally both played on the 1976 SEC champion team while Joe, III, was a quarterback on the 2005 SEC champions.

A private family memorial will be held in Washington, D.C. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Mary's Center for Alzheimer¹s and Dementia Care, 1660 Jennings Mill Rd., Bogart, GA 30622.
