May 25, 2011
ATHENS, Ga. --- Former Georgia Bulldog and Superbowl XL MVP Hines Ward took home the Mirror Ball Trophy after winning ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" Tuesday night.
Ward, a wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers for the last 13 seasons, played for the University of Georgia from 1994-97. The Forest Park native tallied 144 receptions, placing him fifth in the record book for career catches as a Bulldog. In 1995, Ward was also the Bulldogs' passing leader with 872 yards and led the team with 1,120 total offensive yards.
Playing receiver for most of his NFL career, Ward has been known to have great hands and now great feet as well. He and his professional partner, Kym Johnson, were front-runners throughout the show's 12th season. They earned another perfect score of 30 from the judges after performing their last dance of the season.
When Ward was handed the trophy and asked how it felt, he remembered the years spent practicing how to tip-toe down the sidelines at Georgia and thanked the Bulldog Nation.
