Gilbert, Conway Chosen For Macon HOF
May 11, 2017

MACON, Ga. --- Former Georgia standouts Tony Gilbert from football and Laura Conway of swimming have been chosen for induction into the Macon Sports Hall of Fame.

The formal induction is slated to take place Thursday, May 11, at the Macon Centreplex.

A linebacker from Central High in Macon, Gilbert led the Bulldogs in tackles in 2000, 2001 and 2002. He ended his career with 328 tackles, including 114 his senior season. Gilbert was named All-SEC and captained the team that won the Southeastern Conference Championship with a 13-1 record. He played professionally for eight years with Jacksonville and Atlanta. Gilbert currently serves as an quality control assistant at North Carolina.

Conway, who also prepped at Central, is the youngest woman (and the second-youngest overall) chosen for the Macon Sports Hall of Fame. She was an 8-time All-American for the Lady Bulldogs and won the 2006 NCAA and SEC titles in the 500-yard freestyle. Conway helped Georgia win the NCAA title in 2005 and the SEC crown in 2006. Conway became the first native of Macon to land on the United States National Team.
