Georgia's Conley, Fuller to be Honored Tuesday at Peach of an Athlete Banquet

ATHENS, Ga.—University of Georgia wide receiver Chris Conley and women’s tennis player Kate Fuller will be honored at the Peach of an Athlete Role Model Banquet at the Cobb Energy Centre on Tuesday.

Conley and Fuller were named Peach of an Athlete honorees by the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and Conley was named the overall male winner. They are among 12 collegiate student-athletes statewide to be honored.

The Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America annually holds the Peach of an Athlete Role Model Banquet, an event designed to honor students who excel in academics, athletics and service to the community.

The Peach of an Athlete awards banquet has recognized deserving athletes whose character, scholastic achievement, athletic excellence and commitment to community service most closely match the aims and ideals of the Scouting program. The goal of the banquet is to raise funds for the Boy Scouts, while honoring amateur and professional athletes who provide a positive role model for area youth daily.

Conley, a native of Dallas, Ga., is the Southeastern Conference’s representative to the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, serves on the NCAA Football Issues Committee, serves as the football team’s representative to UGA Athletic Association’s (UGAAA) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and has been on multiple SEC and Athletic Director honor rolls.

Conley’s many community service events include speaking to elementary age children about the importance of being a leader, anti-bullying, setting goals and being a good friend.  He also volunteers with Samaritan’s Feet, Camp Sunshine, the UGA Learn, Play Excel Program, and UGA Special Olympics. He also serves as a motivational speaker and guest reader at local elementary and middle schools.

A native of Suwanee, Ga., Kate Fuller is the student-athlete representative on the UGAAA Board of Directors as well as a member of the UGAAA Leadership Academy and The Dean William Tate Honor Society. She served as president of the UGAAA Student Athlete Advisory Committee in 2013 and has been an active member since 2011.

Fuller volunteered for UGA’s Safe Route to School program, UGA Special Olympics, Relay for Life. She was a speaker for Girl Power Day, an event for underprivileged youth and girl scouts. She is an active member of the Clarke County school mentor program, and has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Food Bank of Northeast Georgia. Fuller is a three-time member of the SEC Community Service Team and has been on multiple SEC and Athletic Director honor rolls.

In addition to Conley and Fuller, former Georgia football player Matt Stinchcomb will be awarded the Peach of an Athlete Professional Award, given annually to a prominent professional athlete who exemplifies the qualities of responsible citizenship and outstanding character.
