ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia's football team practiced under sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-70s for two hours on Saturday afternoon.

This marked the third practice for the Bulldogs of the spring.  Georgia has 12 more sessions left, including the annual G-Day spring game on Saturday, April 12 at 1 p.m.

"This was the first day in shoulder pads and it was quite a bit warmer today than the first two days," said Richt.  "I thought the guys pushed hard.  The defense started to install some things and the whole practice had a great feeling as far as organization and effort.  The players were flat-out giving everything and that's about all you can ask for right now."

The announcement was made during practice that junior receiver Malcolm Mitchell sustained a left leg injury during practice on Tuesday and will miss the rest of spring practice.  The Valdosta native is expected to have a full recovery by August and be ready for preseason practice.

"The good news is that we think he will be ready by the summertime and by camp," Richt said, adding how "explosive and strong a player" Mitchell was.

Mitchell finished with 1,237 yards receiving and eight receiving touchdowns in his first two seasons (2011, 2012) to go along with 16 kickoff returns for 360 yards (22.5 avg.) as a sophomore in 2012.  He sustained an ACL injury in the 2013 season opener and missed the rest of the season.

Richt also discussed several of the running back corps, including redshirt freshman A.J. Turman and junior Todd Gurley, and how they are developing so far this spring.

"Turman has been practicing harder and longer than other guys because of his conditioning," said Richt.  "I have been pleased with his development."

Gurley has also impressed the staff following the first three sessions.

"(Gurley) looks like he is working himself into better conditioning and improving his confidence," Richt said.  "He looks less and less like something is wrong with him, he's looking more like Gurley now."

Junior Quayvon Hicks has been cross training with the running backs and tight ends this spring and Richt has also been pleased with his efforts.

"For being there a short time, Quayvon is doing some good things," Richt explained.  "He has a decent knack for running routes and has a big enough body where he can block (strong side) linebackers or some of the bigger bodies that tight ends face.  Quayvon has the skill-set to do both positions."

Mitchell to Miss Remainder of Spring with Leg Injury

ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia junior wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell sustained a left leg injury during practice on Tuesday, March 18, and will be withheld from practice for the remainder of the spring.

He had begun limited work during practice following ACL surgery last fall and is still expected to have a full recovery by August pre-season practice according to Ron Courson, Sr. Associate Athletic Director and Director of Sports Medicine.
