ATHENS -- The University of Georgia Athletic Association Board of Directors approved $1.4 million to upgrade the Sanford Stadium video board during its quarterly meeting Thursday in Athens.
The current dimensions of the scoreboard will remain at 52 feet by 76 feet; however, it will be retrofitted to provide full screen opportunities for video displays. The project is expected to be completed for the Sept. 10, 2011, home opener with South Carolina.
In other action, Georgia Director of Athletics Greg McGarity said he would not recommend increasing ticket prices for the annual Georgia-Florida game in Jacksonville. The University of Florida Board of Directors had proposed increasing ticket prices by $10.00 if the proposal was also approved by Georgia. Current prices are $40 for regular seating and $70 in the club area. McGarity left the door open for a possible ticket price increase no earlier than the 2012 game.
The Board also approved a new student football ticket system that would implement a penalty system for students who sign up for tickets but don't attend games or make their ticket available for other students or general sale.
