Gus Felder Named Assistant Strength Coach at UGA

Feb. 20, 2014

ATHENS, Ga. --- Gus Felder, Director of Strength and Conditioning at Clark Atlanta in 2013, has been named Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning at the University of Georgia according to an announcement Thursday by UGA Head Coach Mark Richt.

"Gus has a tremendous background in football in general and strength and conditioning specifically," Richt said. "He'll be a great addition to our staff and I'm sure our players will respond to him in a very positive way."

According to UGA Director of Strength and Conditioning Joe Tereshinski, Felder, who was actually involved in boxing before playing football, will continue and further develop the team's mixed martial arts program in additional to strength and conditioning duties. A former standout at Penn State University (1998-2002), Felder was named to the All Big Ten team in 2001 at the left tackle and guard positions.

After a short stint in the National Football League (NFL) with the Cleveland Browns, he began his coaching career at the high school ranks where he gained four years of coaching experience including one year as head coach at Simon Gratz High School (Philadelphia, PA) in 2004. Felder also served two years as the strength and conditioning and assistant football coach at Cheyney University.

Felder recently obtained his Master of Education Degree in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Health Education from Penn State while serving as a graduate assistant football coach for two seasons (2010-2012). He earned his bachelor's degree in Kinesiology. He is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and prepped at Berwick Area High School where he was a prominent lineman. Felder and his wife Kelly have five children Destiny, 16; Jazmine, 12; Alexa, 10, EJ, 5; and Faith, 3.
