ATHENS-----University of Georgia senior offensive guard Chris Burnette has accepted an invitation to play in the 89th East-West Shrine Game. The game is slated for Jan. 18 at 4 p.m. ET in St. Petersburg, Fla., and will be televised by the NFL Network.
Burnette, a native of LaGrange, Ga., started 37 games over the last four years, including all 13 this season. He was part of an offense that generated at least 23 points 12 times this season and 400 yards in 12 of the 13 games. He was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week following Georgia's 34-31 win at Tennessee in which he graded out at 82 percent with six dominator blocks.
Burnette is the 32nd Bulldog to play in the East-West Shrine Game, and this marks the third straight year Georgia will be represented. Blair Walsh, DeAngelo Tyson and Bruce Figgins were invited in 2012, while Branden Smith played in the game last year.
The beneficiary of the East-West Shrine Game is the Shriners Hospitals for Children, an international pediatric specialty health care system.
