Three In A Row Over UF: Georgia's 23-20 win over Florida marked the third straight victory in the series, which is the first time since 1987-89 that Bulldogs have done that. They lead the overall series 50-40-2. In Jacksonville, Georgia is 43-37-1 over UF. Today marked only the third time since 1979 that both teams came in unranked.
Murray Goes 3-1 Versus Gators: Senior QB Aaron Murray (16-for-25, 258 yards, 1 TD) finishes his Bulldog career 3-1 against Florida. He is only the third starting QB in school history to post three wins over Florida and the first since Buck Belue went 3-0 from 1979-81. Johnny Rauch (1945-48) went 4-0 against the Gators.
Big Early Edge: Georgia jumped out to a 17-0 edge in the first quarter and a 23-3 lead at the half. This marked the first time since 1979 that the Bulldogs jumped out to a 17-0 lead at the end of the first quarter against the Gators. In that 1979 contest, Georgia was up 33-10 at the half and won with that same score. The 20-point lead Saturday matched the Bulldogs' 37-17 fourth quarter lead and eventual win over Florida by that score in 1997.
Gurley Goes To The House: Sophomore TB Todd Gurley had his 12th career game of rushing for more than 100 yards. He had 17 attempts for 100 yards today. He hauled in a 73-yard touchdown reception to put the Bulldogs up 14-0 at the 10:29 mark in the first quarter. His previous long catch was a 23-yarder against Ole Miss last year. This was Gurley's second career touchdown catch (South Carolina, 2013). He also scored the game's first touchdown on a 5-yard run. He finished the half with 151 total yards of offense with three catches for 87 receiving yards and four carries for 64 rushing yards. He was returning to the starting lineup after missing the last two and a half games with an ankle injury.
Marshall Connects Again From Long Distance: Sophomore PK Marshall Morgan drilled a 49-yard field goal to put Georgia up 17-0 in the opening period. He is 13-for-15 on FGs this season after also hitting a 27-yarder and a 32-yarder on Saturday. Morgan scored 11 points today.
Sacks: Senior N Garrison Smith had 2.5 sacks against the Gators after coming into the game with 1.5 on the year. Before this season, Smith only had a single sack. Georgia finished the game with four sacks. Smith tallied a career-high nine tackles.
Leading Tacklers: For the fifth time this season, junior ILB Ramik Wilson led the Bulldogs in tackles with 11. It is the third time he has had 10+ tackles this season.
Points Off Turnovers: The Bulldogs have a minus-6 turnover margin. Georgia has scored 31 points on seven turnovers while opponents have tallied 35 points off 13 Bulldog miscues. Senior QB Aaron Murray passed laterally to senior TE Arthur Lynch and Florida recovered the incomplete ball, which led to a two-play, 14-yard touchdown drive. This marked the eighth touchdown drive that covered 36 yards or less after the defense inherited a short field on an offensive or special teams miscue.
Surrrendering A Safety: The Bulldogs gave up a safety in the 3rd quarter, it was the first time since the South Carolina game in 2009 (punt snapped out of the end zone).
Starters: Junior receiver Michael Bennett returned to the starting lineup after missing the last two games with a knee injury. Bennett had five catches for 59 yards. Senior receiver Rhett McGowan started his first game of the year and second of his career. McGowan had a 23-yard catch at the end of the first half that set up the team's final field goal.
Up Next: Georgia (5-3, 4-2 SEC) returns home to face Appalachian State in Sanford Stadium on Nov. 9 at 12:30 p.m. This is the first matchup between the Bulldogs and the Mountaineers. WSB will televise the game.
